Andis Kaulins Lecturer Law Research Writing University of Trier 1998 - 2003  I lectured on Anglo-American Law, Legal Research and Legal Writing to ca. 200 students per semester at the University of Trier Law School. My courses were not required for graduation, but were electives. There was nevertheless a great deal of student interest in these classes. Indeed, I had about 20 student assistants per semester to help correct the mass of writings which were produced. It is especially important in law that research and writing be correctly done in order that justice be served as well as possible. Numerous students have reported that these courses were among the most useful to them in their later practical legal work. Many scholars in the other humanities do not do research properly for they are neither trained fact-finders, nor do they evaluate evidence correctly - these are skills they have never had to learn in college - and their often erroneous and largely subjective peer-reviewed publications show this blatant deficit. Hearsay abounds. Probative evidence is rare. The law can not (or should not) afford such practices.
